Webcatz was an online e-Catalogue and showroom site. This site was designed to allow clients to change
their web sites online from anywhere in the world. The site also included an optional shopping cart
addition so that visitors to the front end of their site could purchase their products.
Originally designed in 1999, this e-Catalogue was ahead of its time in functionality and design. Developed
in PHP with a Mysql database back end, the site was split into two parts. The first was the administration
system, allowing the client to create categories and items and upload images. This administration system
was kept simple with link clicking and form field inputting.
The second part was the front end that the web surfing visitor would see and look through. As the visitor
arrived at the site, the Webcatz system built the site layout dynamically from the database. This meant
that the client could instantly change colours, fonts, logos, categories and item details in their administration
system and these would instantly change at the front end.
